When you invest in a precision candle frame, the wick should meet the same standard. Even the best frame in the world cannot compensate for inconsistent or poorly manufactured wick, which directly affects burn behavior, candle finish, and repeatability.

This square braided wick is manufactured by Atkins & Pearce, a celebrated, family-owned American textile company with roots going back to the early 1800s. Still privately held and operating in the U.S., Atkins & Pearce applies industrial textile discipline—fiber selection, braid geometry, and tension control—to wick manufacturing at a level most commodity suppliers do not match. The result is a square wick that holds its shape, resists unraveling, and delivers predictable capillary behavior in dense natural waxes like beeswax, producing steadier flames and fewer trim or tuning issues.

We offer this wick in two production-proven sizes: 4/0 and 2/0. The 2/0 wick is thicker, while 4/0 is thinner. In our own taper candle production, we’ve consistently found that wick selection benefits from considering candle length in addition to diameter. The thicker 2/0 wick performs more reliably in longer candles, maintaining stable burn behavior over extended lengths, while the thinner 4/0 wick tends to perform better in shorter candles, even when diameters are similar. Accounting for candle height when selecting wick size reduces burn tuning and improves overall consistency.

Square braided cotton wicks are particularly well suited to beeswax tapers due to their self-trimming behavior and controlled fuel delivery. As always, final wick choice should be confirmed through test burns using your specific wax and process—but starting with a precisely manufactured, dimensionally consistent wick removes many variables before testing begins.
