Not all beeswax behaves the same in candlemaking.
We source our beeswax from a local Missouri beekeeper with approximately 1,200 hives. The wax is screened at the source and triple-filtered in-house to remove impurities while preserving its natural structure, fragrance and character.
Real beeswax burns cleanly. Properly processed beeswax is naturally low-drip and low-soot, and these qualities are among the simplest indicators of authenticity. When beeswax is blended with paraffin or other waxes, or treated with dyes and additives, these properties are often diminished.
Processing temperature matters. Beeswax that has been overheated loses much of its natural honey fragrance and can behave unpredictably in candles. This may be acceptable in personal care applications, where fragrance is commonly added later, but it is not acceptable in candlemaking, where the only ingredients are the wax and the wick.
Natural beeswax also varies in color from season to season. Changes in nectar sources and seasonal forage influence tone, ranging from pale yellow to deeper amber. This variation is a normal characteristic of genuine beeswax.
Many commercial beeswax products—whether sold in blocks, pellets, pastilles or other forms—are optimized for uniform appearance or handling rather than candlemaking performance. This block is processed specifically for candlemaking workflows.
Its large format supports efficient batching and stable melting, while its density makes it easy to portion into smaller pieces when needed. For makers working with frames, molds or small-batch production, it provides a reliable wax base that behaves as beeswax should.
When working with hot wax, tools should be heat-resistant rather than plastic or wood, since they must withstand both high temperatures and heat-gun cleaning. A long stainless steel mixing paddle is useful for moving unmelted blocks and stirring wax in the kettle, while an aluminum pouring pot makes it easier to catch wax at the ball valve and transfer melted wax into molds. A heat gun simplifies de-waxing of tools between batches, and silicone mold mats allow wax to be resized into convenient portions for storage or shaped into forms suitable for sale.
