How The Candle Dippers™ Brand Was Born
The genesis of Candle Dippers™ began when we started making candles to reduce costs for our parish, after discovering we were purchasing candles externally, sometimes at a loss. The goal was to reproduce the same candles we already used - the same sizes, shapes and quality - using in-house production.
Initial production relied on a small metal mold. While functional, it leaked, caused candles to stick and slowed production. This made it clear that molds were unsuitable for sustained, higher-volume candle making and pushed us toward taper frames.
Available frames presented a tradeoff. Domestic options were low-capacity and inconsistent, while higher-quality overseas frames became impractically expensive once shipping and duties were considered. This revealed a broader sourcing problem.
To address it, we decided to design a high-capacity frame that could be produced domestically. A local engineering firm helped translate practical production needs into a manufacturable design.
The first prototype revealed that the wick notches pinched too tightly. This slowed stringing, and small inefficiencies compounded quickly at scale. A revised wick notch design corrected the issue. This version proved efficient and durable enough to remain in active use.
As development continued, the most difficult challenge was achieving sufficient strength and alignment at the ring/ shaft joint. This joint affects symmetry, speed, consistency, burn quality and long-term durability. Multiple iterations were required to solve it cost-effectively.
Once a reliable joint design was achieved, tolerances, joinery and finishes were validated under real production conditions. Changes without measurable benefit were not carried forward.
With these structural issues resolved, attention shifted to capacity, particularly for small tapers, where throughput mattered most.
The final result was a patented, high-capacity taper frame designed for speed, consistency and durability. What began as a parish necessity became a solution to a problem shared by many artisanal candle operations.
We built this frame so we could do our best timely work. We offer it in the hope it helps you in yours.
